The UT-Tyler Writing Center supports and encourages writing instruction in all disciplines. We are located in the College of Arts and Sciences building in room 212. Our hours are Mon-Thurs 9-5 pm and Fri 9-3 pm.
We provide writing consultation for all UT-Tyler students. We also offer writing programs and presentations tailored to meet faculty members specific instructional objectives. The UT-Tyler Writing Center grounds its service to the campus community on the following assumptions:
* that individual writers work in unique, non-formulaic ways
* that each student writer requires individualized writing instruction
* that writing-intensive coursework can and should be an integral part of a comprehensive liberal arts education.
We believe that students know more about their own writing processes and projects than the consultants do. We let their questions and concerns drive the sessions. Our approach is to teach students editing strategies; we do not edit papers for students. Our hope is that students will grow in their writing and editing processes as to make our assistance unnecessary in the future.
We guarantee that visits to the Writing Center will be a span of time spent discussing student-specific writing assignments, concerns, and questions with a reader whose advice is aimed at improving the piece of writing and the writer's skills in creating it. We do not promise perfect papers or high grades.
